Advocus working with Nails Inc
Advocus has recently been working with Nails Inc, the world’s largest nail bar chain. Nails Inc has nearly 60 outlets in the UK, notably in major department stores such as Debenhams, House of Fraser, Harvey Nichols, Brown Thomas, Selfridges and John Lewis. Nails Inc also trades through its websites www.nailsinc.com and www.nailsinctrade.com.
Advocus was commissioned to review the supply chain and logistics operation in the first instance. Several recommendations were made regarding the processes used and management approach, most of which have been implemented by Nails Inc within a few months. However the major outcome of the review was the decision by Nails Inc to transfer its outsourced warehousing and fulfilment operation to a new 3rd party. This decision was taken at the beginning of May 2010 with a target implementation date of 2nd August. Advocus was asked to assist with the planning and progressing of the move.
Advocus facilitated an initial planning workshop on 10th May including all the key parties within Nails Inc and the new 3rd party. The major outputs from this workshop were fully understood scope/constraints/challenges of the move, a fully time scaled and owned plan for the move, an agreed project management method and all major concerns highlighted. The team were fully bought in at this early stage.
Advocus then ran a weekly progress meeting to monitor actions against the plan, check on risks and resolve issues. The time pressure was high but the team handled all challenges as they arose. There were a couple of issues on which Advocus was asked to help in detail, specifically the invitation to tender document and some elements of contract negotiations – these were successfully resolved.
The move to the new 3rd party was implemented successfully on the target date of 2nd August. There was minimal disruption to customers and sales levels were maintained. The new 3rd party has been operating successfully ever since.
Lisa Baglin, Commercial Director at Nails Inc commented – ‘Mike Beckett of Advocus helped us identify areas of improvement in our operation and then calmly facilitated the selection of a new 3rd party, helped us create a comprehensive and robust move plan and then worked with us throughout the project to ensure a successful on-time implementation. He was a great sounding board at all times and I would recommend him to anyone with similar issues and projects.’
